Joan Marie Ilgenfritz's Obituary
Joan Marie Ilgenfritz passed away peacefully on July 18, 2024, in Millsboro, DE. Born in New York, NY, on September 2, 1943, she lived a fulfilling and vibrant life, touching the hearts of many within her community and beyond.
An exemplar of service and leadership, Mrs. Ilgenfritz's legacy includes her instrumental work with the Girl Scouts in New York, where she guided young women to become confident and capable leaders. Her expertise in grant writing greatly benefited the Nanticoke Indians in the early days of their PowWow, ensuring the continuance of vital community programs. Mrs. Ilgenfritz also left an indelible mark on journalism as the admired head of a newspaper in Millsboro, DE.
Mrs. Ilgenfritz is preceded in passing by her parents, Dwight Boyce and Margaret Boyce (Hromcho), her husband John Ilgenfritz, as well as her sister-in-law Pamela Boyce. She leaves behind a cherished family who will fondly remember her: one brother, Robert Boyce of Georgia; one sister, Karen Ashley of Delaware; her three nieces: Jennifer Burnett (Shawn) of Georgia, Erika Carlson of Connecticut, and Ashley Riggs (David) of Georgia; one stepdaughter, Karen Stamper of Michigan; two sisters-in-law: Bernie and Carolann; and six grand nieces and nephews as well as two great friends: Terry Boner and Bob Trupkiewicz. Mrs. Ilgenfritz's grace and spirit will be deeply missed.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Mrs. Ilgenfritz on Wednesday, July 31st, 2024, at 11:30AM at the Mary Mother of Peace Roman Catholic Church in Millsboro, DE. Friends and family may visit starting at 10:30AM.
In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mary Mother of Peace. Entombment will be private.
