Obituary of Joan D. Williams
Joan D. Williams, age 76, of Georgetown, DE passed away at home in the loving care of her family and assisted by Vitas Hospice on February 16, 2019. She was born on November 25, 1942 to the late Joseph C. and Alice Marie Hitchens Gordon. In addition to her parents she is also preceded in death by a brother, Joe Gordon, Jr. and her youngest son, Mark A. Williams.
Her siblings are: Doris Wilkins (Wayne) of Georgetown; Jeanette Hudson (Frank) of Gumboro, DE; Harry A. Gordon (Pat) of Georgetown, DE, and Joseph C. Gordon, Jr. (Gloria) of Georgetown, DE. She graduated from Georgetown High School, and on Nov 3, 1961 she married Harold T. Williams. She worked for 25 years at the Stockley Center in the Accounting Department, retiring in 2002. She loved her family and friends. She was known for her love and kindness, home cooked meals and her "slick dumplings" for which she had a secret recipe. Her hobbies included game shows, and reading her Bible. She was a member of Edgewater Wesleyan Church in Milton, DE.
In addition to her husband and siblings, she is survived by a son, Michael T. Williams, of Salisbury, MD; and a daughter-in-law, Brenda Williams of Laurel, DE. She is also survived by two grandsons: Mark A. Williams, Jr. and Luke Williams, both of Georgetown, DE. Joan also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family - as well as many friends. Special thanks from the family goes to Christiana Care, of Newark, DE; Chesapeake Health South, of Salisbury, MD; Harrison House Rehabilitation, of Georgetown, and her husband who served as her primary caregiver.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 21, 2019 at 12:00 Noon at Watson Funeral Home in Millsboro Delaware. Friends may call one hour prior to the service for viewing and visitation. Pastor Tim Wilson will officiate. Interment follows in Millsboro Cemetery. Flowers are welcomed, or in lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Vitas Hospice, 30265 Commerce Drive, Suite 202, Millsboro, DE 19966.
