JOHN ""JACK"" HARVEY PARKER, SR.'s Obituary
John (Jack) Harvey Parker, Sr.
Mr. John (Jack) Harvey Parker, Sr. age 77 of Millsboro, DE went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 5, 2015.
Jack was born at home in Millsboro, DE on September 30, 1938. Son to the late Harvey and Myrtle Parker, step-son of the late John Ford Parker and brother to Minnie Parker, Merrill Parker and his wife Betty, and Linda Dykes and her husband Wayne.
Regarded as the "Jack of all trades," Son, Father, Uncle, Poppop, Pop, and friend, Jackie was one of the true good' olé boys of the Delmarva Peninsula. A man with a giving heart who knew not a stranger, stood for God, faith, family, his country, hard work, persistence, determination and, the greatest of all these, love. Jack was a light to everyone who came in contact with him. His passion and purpose revolved around helping all those who had a vision and inspiration to plan, build and accomplish their dreams from the ground up. Whether it was helping someone achieve an education, building or purchasing a house, or starting a new business, Jack would take the time to help each one develop a plan with wisdom and resources to succeed. He had a 12th grade education and wisdom beyond his years. He served his country in the National Guard for 8 years, federally called to duty during the Berlin Crisis. With a servant's heart, Jack worked for Dupont, DPL and owned his own chicken farm; however, in 1965, followed his passion to become a master builder, carpenter, developer and real estate entrepreneur. Over the years, he became a world traveler in his Motorhome, a charter boat captain with a love for fishing, a NASCAR enthusiast, a seafood connoisseur, and a memory maker, gathering his family and friends around his table for a good home cooked meal. Jack had a special place for children, whether it was his own kin or those in need. He took the time to teach, encourage and support each one from a young age, especially in discipline and strength by helping them enroll and financially sponsor those with ambition at Millsboro Taekwon Do. Once Jack put his mind to something, it was accomplished, running circles around all of us. Known for his strength and ability to stand firm, Jack was always fair yet outspoken with a heart to help all those in need, giving the shirt off his back if necessary. His love for God, family and hard work remains steadfast in all of us that are still following in his footsteps. As God called him to do, he laid the foundation in each and every one of our hearts; befriending and raising us all in the way we should go so we would never depart. Jack has sown a multitude of seed that is still bearing fruit to this day and will continue for years to come in his family and our community.
He is dearly loved and survived by his companion of 12 years, Cindy Riddle; son, John Harvey Parker, Jr. and his wife Janice Parker; son, David Parker and his wife Diana Parker; daughter, Elizabeth Hodges and her husband Timothy Hodges; mother of his children, Yvonne Parker. Grandchildren, Jessica Hastings and her husband Jonathon Hastings, Julie White and her husband Brandon White, John Parker and his wife Sonia Parker, Joanna Parker and her fiancé Steven Rice, Stephanie Brown and her husband Ryan Brown, Joshua Parker, Benjamin Hodges, Austin Hodges, Sarah Hodges, and Christian Hodges. Great Grandchildren, Cason Hazzard, Parker Hazzard, Logan White, Jaxon White, Christabella Parker, Rowan Brown, Lydia Brown, and step-great grandchild, Alex Hastings.
