John David LaPrad's Obituary
John David LaPrad, of Georgetown, Delaware, passed away peacefully at his home on June 2, 2025, at the age of 55. Born in Milford, DE, he was the beloved son of Janice (Workman) and John LaPrad. He was a life member of Mount Olivet Brethren Church, where he accepted Jesus as his savior and was baptized into the Brethren Faith. John was known by many nicknames: Buck, JBuck, JD, Johnny and Uncle Johnsy.
A proud graduate of Sussex Central High School, Class of 1987, John carried a lifelong loyalty and passion for his alma mater’s football team. He was also an avid fan of the New England Patriots, rarely missing a game and always cheering them on with enthusiasm.
John dedicated 38 years of his life to the family business, Seaford Machine Works, where he worked on a specific machine, that he learned to program and used exclusively. Johnny was remembered by his co-workers as a good guy with a great sense of humor. Customers had often commented on how polite and helpful he was.
Outside of work, John found joy in the great outdoors. He loved four-wheeling, fishing, boating, and golfing. He thoroughly enjoyed practicing his marksmanship by target shooting, and he played a mean game of pool. John was known by all for his dry sense of humor, unforgettable laugh, and a generous spirit that always found him helping others in their time of need.
John’s memory will be cherished by his parents; his sister, Dale LaPrad (LaMar Stewart) of Seaford, DE; his niece, Caitlyn Schaffner of Seaford, DE; and his nephew, Cole Schaffner of Boca Raton, FL. He also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends who will miss him deeply.
He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Peter and Kathryn LaPrad; maternal grandparents, Dale and Verna Workman; his uncle, Robert Hill LaPrad; and his aunt, Joyce Ann Harrell.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Watson Funeral Home, 211 S Washington Street, Millsboro, DE 19966, with a viewing beginning at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Seaford.
