John "Rick" Richard Blattau's Obituary
John Richard Blattau, born on January 6, 1948, in Baltimore, MD, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2025, in Millsboro, DE.
He was the son of the late John Louis and Catherine Elizabeth (Lewin) Blattau. Rick, as he was affectionately known, graduated from Catonsville High School with the class of 1967. After graduating high school, Rick proudly served his country by joining the United States Army. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War.
Following his service, he worked diligently as an appliance repair technician for many years.
Rick was an avid sports fan who deeply loved the Baltimore Colts, as well as the Baltimore Ravens and Orioles. An outdoorsman at heart, he found great joy in golfing, hiking, camping, and fishing. However, above all else, Rick cherished his family, and the time spent with them.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his beloved wife, Roberta L. Blattau; his daughters, Christine Griffin (Dave) and Emily Galita; and his adored grandchildren, Nicholas Griffin, Jacob Griffin, Joshua Galita, and Samuel Galita. Rick also leaves behind his brother, James Blattau (Carol); his sister, Jean Vinzant (Mike); and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Rick’s life will be held at a later date.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
