Albert Barthelmess lit a candle in memory of John Swithenbank

I met John when I was 15, the 1 thing that stood out the most was his smile.. John always had a smile on his face, and always laughing at something. I just knew he more than likely was the class clown..I would call that a quality.
Growing up together all us cousins were like extended siblings. Johnny was the mischievous one of the bunch you never knew what he was going to get into next. He loved running around Oak Orchard doing his own thing. He enjoyed crabbing off the piers, riding bikes and hanging out with Poppop Ray. Little John was definitely a handful as he could make you laugh and cry all in the same minute. He went through his struggles in life but never lost his smile or spirit. He was passionate about his children and grandchildren. He was a kind compassionate and caring man who would do anything for family or friend. The sudden loss of John was a shock to all of us and the world is a little less brighter without his light. He was a son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend that will truly be missed. May his spirit for life carry on through the light he has shone in all our lives. May we carry on his legacy through our memories of him and never forget that "being up to something" grin. John was a man to be remembered and I am honored to have called him Family. He now shines down on us and will always be our guardian from Heaven. Rest In Peace Johnny and keep Poppop Ray on his toes once again! Love and miss you always ♡

Was glad to be the one that he felt would be there for him when ever he needed some one to back him up and go get him when he was in trouble and hide him from we all know who that was love you lots and will miss you forever RIPJohn and give everyone up stairs hug and a great big hug to pop pop
This is to John. John, you and I go way back!! I want you to know, I will always cherish the memories of you. We had a lot of fun as kids, and not so much fun as adults, but I want to thank you for giving me my first born child, DAVID!
Some fun memories I have is watching football with you and you teaching me how to understand the game. I remember when you worked at The Charcoal Pit in Pike Creek and you would come home smelling like fried food, so we would hand wash your shirts before putting them in the washer because they smelled that bad. I remember your obsession with buying baseball cards and all of them spread out in our apartment and your favorite player was Frank Thomas. The car rides around Rehoboth with you and Albert and you two always getting into some kind of trouble. Fun times and good memories!! Your death is a big shock to those who love you, and knew you. Rest easy John. You will never be forgotten.
