John George Wahl's Obituary
John George Wahl, 65, of Georgetown, DE passed away peacefully at his home on April 7, 2023. He was born on March 12, 1958, in Philadelphia, PA to the late George and Kathryn (Noble) Wahl. John had many titles in life. He was a loving husband, father, friend, pop-pop, corrections officer, and had recently earned the title of retiree. John spent his youth in Springfield, PA before he and his surviving wife, Susan Pilallis-Wahl, and their children moved to Georgetown, DE. John and Susan shared thirty-eight wonderful years. John grew up as an only child but ended up being a loving father to seven children and a wonderful pop-pop to three grandchildren: Jacob, Christopher, and Rilee. John loved the simple things in life: a good ice cream, family gatherings, gag gifts, basking in the sun, napping with his dog, Stormy, playing jokes at his children’s expense, and working on his Ocean City beach house where he was preparing to enjoy his well-deserved retirement. John worked as a corrections officer for 23 years, at Sussex Correctional Institute, where many lovingly referred to him as their work dad and pop-pop. John touched the hearts of all those he met and was known for his ability to make people laugh. This was especially true during times when it seemed like a smile or laugh would be impossible, or occasionally, comedically inappropriate. John enjoyed eating at different restaurants, his favorites being Pit n’ Pub and Harvest Diner, and always had a glass of iced tea. John will forever be remembered for the man he was and will greatly be missed by all those that knew him. Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure, you are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure. John was preceded in death by son William (Roz). John’s memory will live on through his loving wife and surviving children: Athene (John), Philip (Joanna), Calandra (Kody), Steven (Abby), Demitria (Liam), and Kyra.
A celebration of life will be held from 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at the Millsboro Fire Department, 109 E. State St., Millsboro, DE 19966.
