Joseph Allen Ward's Obituary
Joseph Allen Ward, born on February 25, 1936, in Washington, D.C., passed away peacefully on June 17, 2024, in Millsboro, DE. He was the beloved son of the late Robert Roy and Margaret Elizabeth (Geris) Ward.
Joseph proudly reserved in the DC National Guard for over 30 years. He also worked for and retired from the Federal Government and later dedicated his career to security work at Inova Hospital in Fairfax, VA.
A man of diverse interests, Joseph enjoyed traveling, delving into history, and reading. He was also an avid supporter of his favorite baseball team, the Washington Nationals.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Roy and Margaret Elizabeth Ward; and his sister Eileen Ward; and two brothers Robert Ward and James Ward.
Joseph leaves behind a loving family who will cherish his memory: his children, Maureen Stargel (Ray) of Bowie, MD, Trish Colein of Accokeek, MD, and Kathleen Seward of Painter, VA; his siblings, William Ward (Joanne) of Fredericksburg, VA, Paul Ward, and Kathleen Collins. He was also the proud grandfather of twelve grandchildren: Rachel Ritchie (Josiah), Tabitha Zug (Jason), Candace Crawford (Mark), Joseph Colein, Jessica Colein, Sarah Beverly (D'Warren), John Colein (Becca), Raymond Stargel Jr., Michael Stargel (Erin), Diane Stargel, Amber Seward, and Reese Seward, Jr., and 28 great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 12, 2024 at 11:00AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church Historic Chapel located at 16501 Annapolis Road, Bowie, MD 20715.
