June Eloise Nelson's Obituary
June Eloise Nelson, 82, of Oak Orchard, DE, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2025, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes, DE. She was born in Wilmington, DE, on June 18, 1943, the daughter of the late Joseph and Eva (Forsstedt) Woerner.
After graduating from William Penn High School, June continued her education, earning her associate degree from Wor-Wic Community College and later her bachelor’s degree in accounting from Wilmington College. She built a long and successful career as a tax accountant, working for many years at Perdue in Salisbury, MD, and later at Townsend’s in Millsboro, DE, where she was respected for her professionalism, dedication, and commitment to her employer and fellow employees.
June deeply appreciated spending time with her family, friends, and her cat Mike. Having lunch with her friends throughout the week at the many local establishments was a highlight of her week. She enjoyed NASCAR, traveling to different race tracks, and rooting for her favorite drivers over the years (presently Alex Bowman #48). She also enjoyed watching football (because she had three boys) and even attending a game in person from time to time. She took great pleasure in traveling and seeing many exciting places with her family - from Alaska to Disney - and taking different family members along. Most of all, June found great pleasure in serving God and her church family. She was a long-time member of Long Neck Methodist Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, finance chair, choir director, and bell choir director, and volunteered for many different church activities and programs. She believed in serving God with all she had and lived a long, devoted life.
She was preceded in death by her parents and great-grandson Silas. June is survived by her three sons, Dennis Nelson and his wife Carolyn, Gary Nelson and his wife Melissa, Richard Nelson and his wife Mary Jo, and friend Teresa Reed; her eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren with two more on the way; her two sisters, Joanne Hicks and her husband Phillip, and Joyce Hargreaves and her husband Tom.
June will be remembered for her dedication to her church and family, musical attributes, and the sincerity she brought to her friends and family. She was deeply loved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, November 14, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Long Neck Methodist Church, 32051 Long Neck Road, Millsboro, DE 19966, with a visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow at Millsboro Cemetery.
To honor her memory, please consider a donation to the Long Neck Methodist Church music program.
In the meantime, please light a candle or leave a condolence for the family.
