Obituary of June Carol Powell RESCHEDULED DUE TO WINTER STORM SEE BELOW FOR CORRECT DATE AND TIME
June Carol Powell, 72, of Millsboro passed away on January 17, 2016 in the care of Beebe Medical Center in Lewes. She was born on June 23, 1943 in Millville, DE to the late Ralph and Susie Lank Smith, and had five siblings. She married Russell J. Powell, and shared 53 years of marriage, raising five children of her own. June was the most caring kind of person you could ever meet, and "wouldn't hurt a flea." She loved children, and would do anything she could for anybody. She loved yard sales, collecting dolls and was very devoted to her family. She especially enjoyed cooking for them and guests.
June is survived by her husband, Russell J. Powell and her five children: David Smith, and his wife Terry, of Millville; Chris Powell, and his wife Donna, of Georgetown; Russell Powell, and his wife Lisa, of Ocean View; Tracy Harmon, of Georgetown; and Kimberly Parsons, and her husband, Brian, of Millsboro. She also is survived by siblings: Robert Smith, and wife Janet, of Dagsboro; Louis Smith, of Cartersville, GA; Keith Smith, and wife Stephanie, of Clarksville. ( Two siblings preceded her: a brother Joshua and sister: Norma Hobbs.) In addition, she has 13 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. The family would like to also recognize her special friends: Mary Lou Smith; Dorothy Lathbury; Doris Dorazzio; and Irene Holloway.
A time of visitation and viewing will be held from 3:00 PM until 4:00 PM on Tuesday, January 26th, 2016 at the Watson Funeral Home in Millsboro. At 4:00 PM there will be a committal service led by Brook Rogers. Interment arrangements are private.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the family to help offset medical and final expenses incurred during June's illness.
