June Lee Simpson's Obituary
MAKANDA, ILLINOIS - June Lee Simpson, age 88, passed away on Thursday, May 23, 2024 at her home in Makanda surrounded by her loving family.
June was born on March 16, 1936 in Lewes, DE to William and Margaret (Dallas) Ritter. June married William Burnside on February 5, 1960 in Denton, MD. He preceded her in death on May 12, 1983. She married Daniel Simpson on December 28, 2004 in Lewes, DE. He preceded her in death on July 18, 2022.
June worked as a secretary for Beebe Hospital and Edgehill Pharmacy, served as a bookkeeper for the Ritter Family Farm, and found her final calling doing in-home daycare for many years before retiring in 1995. She enjoyed spending time with her family and caring for children.
June is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, William and Penny Burnside; granddaughter, Kara Burnside; brother Bud Ritter; sisters Ethel Lee and Patricia Rust; step-son Sam Simpson and daughter-in-law Leslie; grandchildren Amy Lewis and Brian Roberts, Dan and Tara Simpson; and four great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; sisters Mary Lou Steele, Joan Burton, Janice Mosley, and Marie Savin; brothers Bert, Frank, and Irvin Ritter.
Graveside Services for June will be held at 12:00 pm on Friday, May 31, 2024 at St. George’s Chapel Cemetery in Harbeson, DE.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Immediately following the graveside service, a meal for family and friends will be held at the Redman Hall (17451 Nassau Commons, Lewes, DE).
