Larry Wayne Mitchem's Obituary
Larry Wayne Mitchem peacefully passed away at home, surrounded by his loving family, on December 22, 2025. He was 85 years old. Larry was born on August 14, 1940, in Montcalm, West Virginia, the son of the late Roy Marvin and Elsie Nell (Asbury) Mitchem.
On September 26, 1959, Larry married the love of his life, Lucille Marie Belcher. Together, they shared many devoted years of marriage until her passing. Larry spent his life working as a farmer, a role that perfectly reflected his character. He was known as a very hardworking man who valued dedication, perseverance, and providing for those he loved. In his free time, Larry enjoyed the simple pleasures of life—he never missed an auction, especially at Dill’s, and spent countless hours on the water fishing, activities that brought him great joy and peace.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Lucille Marie Mitchem; his children, Anthony Wayne Mitchem, Ronnie Dale Mitchem, and Sheila Jane Mitchem; and his grandson, Nicholas Martin Hoover.
He is survived by his cherished grandchildren: Crystal Baldwin, Jason Mitchem, Christopher Mitchem, Jennifer Mitchem, Jessica Sealey, and Leah Bowler; his great-grandchildren: Spencer Hitchens, Cohen Burns, Aubree Jane Cobo, Alexis Houseman, Joylin Rathbone, Aria Mitchem, Hannah Mitchem, Andru Mitchem, Aailiyah Mitchem, Airabella Sealey, and Kegan Sealey; his great-great-grandchild, Greyson Ryan Hitchens; his nephew, Kevin Catron; his daughter-in-law, Robin Buckles Mitchem; and his closest friends: Mr. Jim, Albert, his dear friend Ms. Leslie and his little auction buddy, Jason. Larry’s legacy lives on through the many generations who were blessed to know his strength, love, and quiet devotion to family.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, January 2, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Watson Funeral Home and Crematorium, 211 S. Washington Street, Millsboro, Delaware 19966. Visitation will take place from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service.
