Laura Joan Hopkins' Obituary
Laura Joan Snead-Hopkins affectionately known as “June” of Millsboro, Delaware departed this life on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at the age of 82. She was born on September 9, 1941, to the late James E. and Laura E. Snead in Exmore, Va.
June grew up and was educated in Frankford, Delaware, and later graduated from James H. Grove High School. At an early age, she met the love of her life Paul Clifton Hopkins (Click) and from this union, they had six children. They were inseparable.
Though June was employed with several companies in Delaware, the job she loved most was working at the Stockley Center as a Certified Nursing Assistant. She was employed there for 18 years before retiring. Her passion as a caregiver led her to the Cheer Center caring for the elderly and disabled. She didn’t mind telling you about each one of her clients with a quiet laugh.
June was a businesswoman. For several years she sold Avon, Lucky Heart skin and hair products, Popular Club, Stuart McGuire Clothes and Shoes, and a landlord. With her business sense, she won several awards for her leadership and high sales. If it was in a book or a bottle, she would sell it.
June was a good cook. She loved family gatherings, her church, and her Pastor. She made the best stuffing in town. Joan and June would sit together in the service. No matter what the occasion, we had a side of her famous stuffing. She also enjoyed going on vacation with her daughter Jackie and her husband Ivory. When she was getting ready to go on vacation she would say, “I don’t know where they are going but wherever we go, I am going to enjoy myself.” Sure enough, when the Williams’ pulled out she was in tow.
June was preceded in death by her husband Paul, parents, James and Laura Snead, four children, Janice Tingle, Paul, Lonnie, and Stephanie Hopkins, one grandson Myron Suggs, one sister Patricia Hall and one brother John Snead.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory two daughters – Joan Milbourne, of Frankford, DE and Jacqueline Williams (Ivory), Millsboro, DE, 10 grandchildren; Calvin Suggs Jr., Titania Whaley (Issac), Dwight Johnson, Medford Tingle, Eric Rodgers, Keith Hopkins, Keiyanda Hopkins, Keon Hopkins, Yolonda Oney, Hasan Oney; six sisters; Mary Bratten and Gladys Colonna of California Gloria Hatton (Wilkins) of Townsend, Esther Savage of Smyrna, Shirley Pettyjohn of Frederica and Barbara Griffin of Dover, one brother James Snead of Dover, One uncle and one aunt; 17 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
