Linda Diane Short's Obituary
Linda Diane Short, of Millsboro, Delaware passed away peacefully on June 16, 2026. She was born in Milford, Delaware, on September 25, 1948 and was the daughter of the late Joseph Moore Sr. and Pauline Todd.
Diane began her career in the Healthcare field working in a Cardiologist’s office in Salisbury, MD and later in the Emergency Room at Peninsula General Hospital. In 1982 she received her Certification from the American Association for Medical Transcriptionists (AAMT), and served as President of Indiana-Kentucky Chapter of AAMT for several years as well as recorder for the First State Delaware Chapter of AAMT.
From 1970-1994 she worked in several states including PA, NJ, WI, and KY, before moving to Millsboro in 1994 to take care of her father due to illness. She worked full-time at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital from 1994-2013 as the Transcription Supervisor and during that time was also the Transcription Instructor at Delaware Technical & Community College in Georgetown. Many of Nanticoke’s Transcriptionist were recruited from her Del Tech Transcription Classes. During her career at Nanticoke, she was a dedicated employee who took great pride in ensuring all dictated Radiology, Pathology, Emergency Room and other Medical Records were transcribed accurately and in a timely manner. She also trained and mentored her transcription staff sharing her extensive transcription knowledge and expertise. She briefly worked as a Transcription Liaison for an attorney’s office in Georgetown before working as a receptionist for Slide Lok of the Eastern Shore.
Throughout her life she has also been a volunteer for the Big Brothers & Big Sisters Program, The Millsboro Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, The Read Aloud Program and the Beta Sigma Phi Service Organization. She enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, Canada & the Bahamas, reading, listening to music and attending Church. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her 2 sons (Marc and Dean), her daughter in law (Sheri), her cousin (Jackie), her two Granddaughters (Mariah and Ashley), and all of her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Joseph Albert Moore Jr. (Malinda) and Elwood James Hitchens Jr.
She is survived by her brother Jeffery D. Hitchens, her sons, Dean Short (Kerri), Marc Short (Sheri), her grandchildren, Mariah Bell (Jordan), Ashley Bracy (Ashton), her great-grandchild Grayson Bell, along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Diane’s memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00AM on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at Carey's Cemetery, Conaway Road and Ward Farm Lane, Millsboro, DE 19966.
