LLOYD L BROWN's Obituary
Lloyd L. Brown, a longtime resident of Oak Ridge, Tennessee passed away January 23, 2016 in Washington, DC after a short hospital stay. He was born January 20, 1927 in Topeka, Kansas to William B. and Elsie E. Brown. He grew up in Wichita, Kansas and joined the Army Specialized Training Program in 1944 after graduating from Wichita East High School. A graduate of Wichita State University with degrees in Chemistry, he came to Oak Ridge to attend the Oak Ridge School of Reactor Technology. After
graduating, he joined the Chemistry Division of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory and worked there until his retirement in 1992.
A longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church he taught Sunday School and held many positions at the church as well as being very active with the Oak Ridge District and the Holston Conference of the United Methodist Church. At the time of his death he was a member of First United Methodist Church. He was also a volunteer for Meals on Wheels for many years.
After his retirement, he enjoyed traveling and took up many hobbies, including candle making and latch hooking, for which he won several prizes at the Anderson County Fair.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Elinor Dobson Brown; son Stephen Brown and his wife Margaret Simkovsky of Arlington, Virginia; daughter Karen Perry and her husband James, of Bethesda, Maryland; two beloved grandchildren, Emma and Matthew Brown of Arlington; a sister, Helen M. Haubold and two nephews Alan and David Haubold of Mission, Kansas.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by a brother Leroy Brown.
The caring companionship of Curtis, Ann Marie, Julie and others will not be forgotten, nor will the generous friendship of his neighbor Pat.
A graveside service will be held at Millsboro Cemetery, Millsboro, Delaware beginning at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 6, 2016. A memorial service will be held in Oak Ridge Tennessee in the spring.
