Luis F. Tiro's Obituary
Luis “Gino” F. Tiro
July 18, 1926 – April 2, 2023
Q: What do flounder fishing, cuffed pants & ‘I Love Lucy’ have in common?
(Need a hint? Gotcha covered.)
A: These are all things that Luis F. Tiro (aka “Gino”) mastered wonderfully!!!
Yes, even though Gino passed peacefully at his home in Pot Nets in Millsboro,
Delaware, on the evening of April 2nd at the age of 96, he will be remembered
for a vast array of impressive talents that made him an admired man.
Starting with the most important, Gino now joins his wife he loved & adored
in heaven. And, of course, her name: ‘Lucy.’
Next would be the ‘cuffed pants’ or a masterfully tailored suit for the DuPont family.
Gino did it all as a Master Tailor originating from the old country in Italy. He had his
own shop out of his home for decades in Wilmington, Delaware. In the years that
followed, he worked and mentored other tailors in fine clothing stores throughout
Delaware.
Lastly, came ‘flounder fishing’ with his family. These cherished times with family
(especially with the younger members of the family) were followed with festive
family dinners at Pot Nets with pan-fried flounder, steamed blue crabs (or even
Lucy’s famous crab cakes if he was lucky) and a cold (yet inexpensive) light beer.
Gino was born over 96 years ago in Fossacesia, Italy in 1926 and became a proud
U.S. Citizen in Wilmington, DE in the 1970s. Even at the young age of 96, Gino was
regularly posting pictures on Facebook to show just how young at heart he was.
Speaking of young at heart, Gino and his wife Lucy started the ‘Lucille M. Tiro
Scholarship Fund’ at local high schools to support underprivileged young girls
to make sure they have brighter futures through their annual scholarship.
Gino is survived by his 2 daughters (Judy & Linda) & son (Terry), 4 grandchildren
(Rick, Kip, Lori & Alex) and too many wonderful great grandchildren to count.
Per Gino’s request, no formal funeral is planned, but just a small family gathering,
which is sure to be filled with the youngest of family members who will only hope
to follow in his large, giving & talented footsteps.
