Marie B Matthews' Obituary
Marie B. Matthews of Frankford, DE entered eternal rest on Thursday, March 19, 2020 at Atlantic Shores Rehab in Millsboro, DE.
She was born on July 21, 1932 in Keller, VA to the late James Bailey and Willa Pruitt Bailey. Marie received her education in Accomac, VA and later moved to Delaware. She married the love of her life Robert L. Matthews on May 13, 1953. Marie was affectionately known as "Boss" by her family and friends.
Marie worked at Showell's Poultry in Showell, MD for many years and then from there she was employed by Hickman and Adkins Realtors until her retirement. She liked watching her soap operas, having company, smiling and being chauffeured by her daughter like "driving Miss Daisey".
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by three sisters, Annie Mae Kelly, Magaline Nocks and Gertrude Hall, a son, John H. Bailey, two grandsons, John Hilliard Jr and Ronald E. Hilliard.
Marie leaves behind her husband of 66 years, Robert L. Matthews of Frankford, DE, one daughter, Rosetta Hilliard (John), one step daughter, Julia Johnson (Jerome) of Cincinnati, OH and a daughter-in-law, Jerry Bailey Hayes (Wesley). She also leaves to cherish her memories two grandchildren, Gregory Hilliard (Pamela) and Tina Jones (Durron), four step grandchildren, Hadiya King, Jerome Johnson Jr., Julian Johnson and Jesse Johnson, along with seven great grandchildren, one great great grandson, granddaughter in law, Tashaya Hilliard, a very close cousin, James H. Bailey and a special friend, Luetta Showell known as Mrs. Billy. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A private graveside service will be held at Zoar Golden Acres with Rev. Claudia Waters Officiating.
