Mary Catherine Goldberg, a lifelong resident of Millsboro, DE, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on July 1, 2025, just two days shy of her 81st birthday. She was born on July 3, 1944, in Lewes, DE, the beloved daughter of the late Ralph “Davis” Carlisle and Catherine (Betts) Carlisle.
Mary graduated from Millsboro High School with the Class of 1962 and went on to attend Goldey-Beacom College. She dedicated over 39 years of service as a medical secretary at the Division of Public Health in Georgetown, DE, where she worked alongside many cherished colleagues and friends.
A lifelong member of Zoar Church in Millsboro, Mary faithfully played the piano there for many years. Music was a passion she carried throughout her life, both at home and at church. She was known for her kind heart, warm presence, and her deep love for her community, family, and friends.
Mary’s family made local history by hosting Millsboro High School’s first foreign exchange student, Jette Beck-Peterson from Denmark, who became like a sister to her and remained a lifelong friend.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her devoted husband, Barnette C. Goldberg, who passed away on April 8, 2022.
She is survived by her loving son, Bart Charles Goldberg and his wife Traci; her close friend Beverly Mitchell, with whom she shared a lifelong bond through school, college, and work; dear friend and former coworker Bill Baker; her piano-playing partner and friend at Zoar Church, Louise Dorey; many close friends, a large extended family, and her beloved granddog, Abby.
