MARY ELLEN HOPKINS's Obituary
Mary Ellen Hopkins of Millsboro, DE passed away on Monday, June 8, 2015. She was 93 years old. She was born on April 16, 1922 in Littleton, NC to the late Bat and Amanda Watson. In 1937 she moved with her family to Baltimore, MD. Later, at the age of 15 she met and married Curtis D. Hopkins, her husband of 44 years and they settled in Millsboro, DE. To this union there were born six children, Daniel Curtis, John Sylvester, Mozell Estelle, Samuel Ray, Robert Lee and Nathaniel. Mary's husband, Curtis and three of her children; Daniel, Samuel (Margaret Ann) and Mozell (Harvey) preceded her in death. She is survived by one brother, Joe Watson of Baltimore, and three sons, John, Robert (Evelyn) of Millsboro, DE and Nathaniel (Edith) of Largo, MD. Other survivors include 18 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, 10 great great grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Mary was a hard worker. She loved to plant flowers in the yard, cook and sew. Sewing became her favorite passion. She became a professional Seamstress working for the Sport Craft/Dressco Corporation for many years. Mary could make anything with or without a pattern. After retirement Mary continued to sew for her family, neighbors, and friends. She will be especially remembered for her ""fried chicken"" and ""corn pudding"". Mary also loved music, Anita Baker was her favorite artist. She liked to dance as well. She loved the visits of her grand and great-grandchildren. She thought ""they were the smartest children she had ever seen"" and was always very generous towards all of them. In March of 2014, at the age of 92 Mary began to have some difficulties stemming from a blood clot in her leg. She was in and out of the hospital several times during the next 12 months of her life. Mary was a God fearing woman who was dearly loved by all who knew her and will be sorely missed by everyone. A funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at the Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro, DE 19966, where friends may call after 11:00 AM. Friends may also call from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM on Friday, June 19, 2015 also at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Old Field Cemetery in Millsboro.
