Mary Frances Luzier's Obituary
Obituary for Mary Frances Luzier
Mary Frances Luzier, a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully in Millsboro, Delaware, on August 4, 2025. She was 93.
Born on June 3, 1932, to loving parents Harvey and Rebecca Coffin, Mary was a proud lifelong resident of Sussex County. She graduated from Millsboro High School in 1950 and went on to work as a bank teller, where her kindness and warm spirit left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
In 1957, Mary met her Prince Charming, Walter Stokes, a WWII veteran and oil tanker chief engineer. They married in 1959 and shared a loving union until his passing in 1985. In 1987, she found love again with her second Prince Charming, Roy Luzier, a WWII veteran and upholstery shop owner, and they were married in 1988. Their 16 years together were filled with joy until Roy’s passing in 2004.
A woman of deep faith, Mary was an active member of Frankford Presbyterian Church, where she found joy in volunteering at the church’s thrift store and connecting with the community. She was known for her generosity, kindness, and unwavering belief in the goodness of others.
Mary loved birdwatching, doing puzzles, playing Scrabble and Yahtzee, and, above all, spending time with her family. Her gentle spirit and loving heart made her unforgettable to everyone who met her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Rebecca; her beloved husbands, Walter and Roy; her siblings Granville, Donald, Pauline, and Betty; her stepdaughter Brenda; her stepdaughter-in-law Peggy; and her stepson-in-law Stan.
Mary is survived by her loving daughters, Kristie Hassett (Kevin) and Dawn Banks (Gary); and by her stepchildren George Luzier, Peggy Schaffer, and Bud Luzier, along with their growing families. She was a proud grandmother to Megan, Emily, John, Daniel, and James, and a cherished great-grandmother to seven great-grandchildren.
She also leaves behind nieces and nephews Sue, Maxine, Robert, Donny, Wayne, Brian, and step-nieces and nephews, including Jeni, who shared Mary’s love for laughter and cooking; as well as many great-nieces and great-nephews who will miss her dearly. Mary’s warmth, faith, and ability to make everyone feel loved will be remembered always.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, August 11, 2025, at Watson Funeral Home & Crematorium, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro, DE 19966, with the visitation beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Millsboro Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Mary asked for donations to be made to the Sussex Consortium in honor of her great-grandson, Luke: Sussex Consortium, 17344 Sweet Briar Rd, Lewes, DE 19958.
