Maxine J. Hitchens' Obituary
Obituary of Mrs. Maxine J. Hitchens: Maxine J. Hitchens, of Millsboro, passed away peacefully at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, Delaware on August 5, 2013 where she was surrounded by family. She was 82 years old. Born on January 27, 1931 in Millsboro, she was the daughter of the late Dorsey and Anna Clark Johnson. She spent a career as a worker at the NCR facility in Millsboro, and also retired from Boardwalk Plaza. She was a dedicated, hard working and fastidious woman - a loving mother, grandmother and ""family person"" who served others. She was exemplary in her housekeeping and cleaning skills. In addition, she played piano at both her home church, Friendship United Methodist, and also at Harmony United Methodist Church. She is survived by six children: Harvey Hitchens, and his wife Irene, of Millsboro; Gerald Hitchens, of Millsboro; Angela Burton, and her husband Ross, of Dover; Rodney Hitchens, of Millsboro; Sonia West, and her husband Randolph, of Millsboro; and Terrence Hitchens, of Philadelphia, PA. She has 9 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by one son: Keith Hitchens; and several brothers and sisters. A funeral service and celebration of her life will be held on Monday, August 12, 2013 at Harmony United Methodist Church, on Rt. 24 in Millsboro with Pastor Gary Meekins officiating. Friends may call from 11:00 AM until 12:00 noon and the service will begin at 12:00 Noon. Interment follows at the Harmony UMC Cemetery. Floral tributes are welcomed.
