Melvin R. Adams Sr.'s Obituary
Melvin R. Adams, Sr., 89, of Laurel, Delaware, passed away peacefully at his home on June 28, 2026.
Born on May 4, 1937, Melvin was the son of the late George Adams and Myrtle (Steele) Adams. He was raised in Long Neck, Delaware, where he developed a strong work ethic while helping on his family's farm from an early age. He graduated from Millsboro High School with the Class of 1955 before eventually making his home in Laurel.
Throughout his life, Melvin was known as a hardworking man who never shied away from honest labor. He worked in construction, was employed at A.I. DuPont in Seaford, raised chickens for Perdue Farms, and spent time as a milk deliveryman. No matter the job, he took pride in his work while providing for his family.
Melvin found his greatest joy outdoors. Whether he was hunting, fishing, or simply enjoying nature, he was happiest surrounded by the beauty of the outdoors. Those who knew him best will remember his ornery spirit, stubborn determination, and hardheaded nature—qualities that made him uniquely himself and gave family and friends countless stories to share. He was also a proud member of the Moose Lodge in Seaford, Delaware.
Above all, Melvin cherished his family. He is survived by his daughters, Crystal Bounds of Laurel, Delaware, Anita Cady of Finksburg, Maryland, Annette Cosgrove of Seaford, Delaware, April Adams of Lewes, Delaware, and Brenda Adams of Seaford, Delaware; his son, Melvin R. Adams, Jr. of Jacksonville, Florida; his sister, Orlene Jackson of Florida. He also has Eight grandchildren and Twelve great grandchildren. Melvin was preceded in death by his father, George Thomas Adams, and his mother, Myrtle Nellie (Steele) Adams, ex-wife Mary Louise Adams and Daughter Teresa Ann Herbert.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Melvin's life on Friday, July 10, 2026, at Watson Funeral Home and Crematorium, 211 South Washington Street, Millsboro, Delaware 19966. A viewing will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 P.M. Prior to the service. Interment will follow at Millsboro Cemetery.
Melvin will be remembered for his unwavering work ethic, his love of the outdoors, his independent spirit, and the lasting memories he created with those fortunate enough to know and love him. His legacy will continue through the family he treasured and the many lives he touched.
