Obituary of Mrs. Minnie K. Doughty
Minnie K. Doughty, of Georgetown, where she had lived the past 26 years, passed away at Peninsula Regional Medical Center on March 25, 2016. She was born on August 7, 1923 in Lewes, DE to the late Ralph M. and Maggie Johnson Joseph. She was a graduate of Milton High School and lived in the area of Milton, Long Neck and Georgetown all of her life. During World War II, she was a plane spotter for Civil Defense, and also rolled bandages for the wounded. She was a very active woman who raised three children with her husband, Mervin A. Doughty, who passed in 1996. She was a charter member of the Mid-Sussex Rescue Squad. She was also a member of the Oak Orchard Community Church. She and her husband owned and operated Doughty's Bayside Marina for many years, until their retirement. She was a hard working independent woman who loved cooking, playing games with her family and spending time with friends. Most of all she was a Christian, and looked forward to going home with the Lord. She is survived by three children: Robert Doughty, and his wife Judith, of Millsboro; Karen Sue Collier, and her husband Timothy, of Wilmington, DE; and Keith L. Doughty, and his wife Sandra, of Georgetown, DE. She has 8 grandchildren: Phillip Doughty; Jill Alexander; Mark Doughty; Maggie Collier; Samuel Collier; Audrey Moore; Sheryl Blackford; and Adam Doughty. Her great-grandchildren are: Kai; Logan; Kinley; Tyler; Connor; Mason; Kaitlyn; Landon; and Kate. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Caleb, and her siblings: Lawrence Joseph; Cora Marker; and William Joseph.
A funeral service and Celebration of Her Life will be held on Wednesday, March 30 at 1:00 PM at the Watson Funeral Home in Millsboro. Friends may call from 11:00 till 1:00 for viewing and visitation. Pastor Allen Miller will officiate. Interment will follow at Henlopen Memorial Park.
Floral tributes are welcomed, or the family suggests memorial contributions to either the Oak Orchard Community Church; Mid-Sussex Rescue Squad; Millsboro or Georgetown Fire Companies.
