Paul Phillip Webster's Obituary
Paul P. “Chip” Webster passed away at his home on December 8, 2024, following an extended period of ill health. Paul was born in Hempstead, Long Island, N.Y., on October 10, 1950, the second of two sons born to Daniel J. and Dorothea Webster. Paul’s birth followed that of his brother Daniel J. Webster, Jr., and preceded the arrival of his two sisters, Janet and Christine (deceased). The Webster family pulled up stakes and over the years made several moves, first to Wellesley, MA, then Short Hills, NJ, and finally put down family roots, settling in Huntington, Long Island, NY.
Paul graduated from Huntington High School, and briefly attended Rensselaer Polytechnical Institute before leaving academia to heed the call of other interests, which at that time included travel, and motorcycles. In pursuit of these callings, Paul moved to California to pursue employment as a motorcycle mechanic for the Yamaha corporation. While in California, Paul traveled extensively to Mexico, where he developed life-long taste for Mexican food, and an affection for Mexican culture.
Following a brief interlude in the Dallas, Texas area, Paul returned to Long Island, where he obtained his Bachelor of Arts from The State University of New York, Stoneybrook. He then relocated to the Washington, D.C. area and obtained his Masters in Business Administration from the American University. Upon completion of his advanced degree, Paul moved to Gaithersburg, Maryland, where he purchased and settled into a townhouse in the Diamond Farms community. At this time Paul was employed as a representative of the Caterpillar Corporation, for which he regularly traveled internationally. Following his work for Caterpillar, Paul served as the National Marketing Manager for the National Asphalt Paving Association. Upon leaving his position with NAPA, Paul eventually relocated to Milton, Delaware, where he looked forward to enjoying proximity to the beaches of that state, and working on his two “hobby” Mustang automobiles.
In addition to his lifelong interest in cars, Paul pursued a decades-long passion for softball and served as Commissioner of the Montgomery County Maryland Softball League Association. Paul’s interest in and love of baseball continued throughout his life, and was a devoted and loyal Red Sox fan, following that team intently through their vicissitudes over the years.
Paul is survived by his mother, Dorothea, of Sarasota, Florida; his brother, Daniel, of Lakewood Ranch, FL; his sister, Janet, of Forest Hills, NY; as well as nephews, Tim Sacca, of Forest Hills, NY; Dr. Gregory Webster, of Gainesville, FL; and niece, Kimberly Webster, Esq., of Highland, NY. Paul is also survived by his long-time companion, Lori Lonergan, with whom he shared home and hearth for years, who shared his interest in baseball, Mustangs, and history – and who taught him to tolerate New York Yankee fans, and enjoy the company of cats.
A memorial service and celebration of life are anticipated in late Spring of 2025 in the greater Albany, New York area, at St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands, New York. Remembrances in lieu of flowers may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
