Peggy W. Cathell's Obituary
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Peggy W. Cathell, age 80, of Millsboro, Delaware, who entered into eternal rest on December 19, 2025. She passed peacefully after a long illness, surrounded by her loving family.
Peggy was born on November 5, 1945, in Milford, Delaware. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marshall and Bernice Wootten, and her brothers, Dale Wootten and Ronald Wootten.
She is survived by her devoted husband of more than 60 years, Art Cathell; her loving daughters, Tina (Joel) Wharton and Kristin (John) McTeer; her cherished grandchildren, Travis (Beth) Wharton, Bethany (Shane) Phillips, Bryce (Erin) Wharton, Jillian (Ethan) Reichhold, Camrynn McTeer, Jaden McTeer, and Madelynn McTeer; and her nine treasured great-grandchildren.
Peggy and Art were married on February 28, 1964, and shared a wonderful life together built on love, faith, and family. Peggy was a faithful servant of the Lord and a lifelong member of Carey’s Church in Millsboro. She deeply enjoyed Carey’s Camp, where she served for many years as a Vacation Bible School teacher. Peggy was also active in numerous church committees and served as secretary of the United Methodist Women’s group for more than a decade.
After graduating from Millsboro High School in 1963, Peggy worked briefly at DuPont in Seaford, Delaware. Following the birth of her second daughter, she chose to retire and dedicate herself fully to raising her family—a role she cherished deeply.
Peggy found her greatest joy in time spent with family, especially while preparing holiday meals that became treasured traditions. She also loved to travel. For fifteen years, Peggy and Art spent their winters in Florida traveling in their motorhome, and together they enjoyed many years of sailing on the Chesapeake Bay and the Indian River.
Peggy lived a life marked by selflessness, always placing the needs of others before her own. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, and a beautiful role model to all who knew her. Her legacy of faith, kindness, and devotion will live on in the hearts of her family and community. She will be deeply missed.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Accent Hospice Care for their guidance and support throughout this journey, and to our caregiver, Dawn Timmons, whose exceptional compassion and devotion will always be remembered and cherished by our family.
A celebration of Peggy’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Carey’s Church in c/o of Josephine Dorey, 22750 Carey’s Camp Rd, Millsboro, DE 19966.
