Phillip Harold Sammons, 73 of Milton, Florida passed away on Sunday, December 27, 2020 from complications of pneumonia. Phillip was born in Dover, Delaware to Charles and Glendora Sammons. He was raised in Cheswold, Delaware before settling in Millsboro, Delaware. After his retirement, Phillip and his wife moved to Milton, Florida for a more relaxing and laid-back lifestyle of traveling, fine dining, and soaking up the Florida sun.
Phillip was a lifelong member of The Nanticoke Indian Association ("NIA"). Phillip's passion was for his people, and the annual Nanticoke Powwow. Phillip devoted his time and service to the NIA and the Powwow since its inception. Phillip loved singing, dancing, and playing the drums and he was eager to pass that knowledge onto the younger generations. Phillip's home and property were open to the tribe each year for its annual Powwows.
Phillip's hobbies included playing and coaching baseball, woodworking, family gatherings, and an occasional trip to the Casino.
Phillip was preceded in death by his parents, and his first wife Ingrid Norwood Sammons "Gussie". Phillip leaves behind his wife of 13 years, Candace Hill-Sammons, two children Mark Sammons, Tara Sammons Doughty and two grandchildren, Christopher Doughty and Katelynn Klingensmith, five brothers Charles "Shorty", Edward "Eddie", John "Jackie", Glendon "Buddy" and Robert "Bobby", three sisters Linda, Cherylene, and Marylyn "Marie", four stepchildren Channon, Debra, Don and Deanna, and 8 step-grandchildren Karleigh, Carissa, Evan, Gavin, Sophia, Kendyl, Greyson, and Joslyn, along with a host of family and friends.
A calling time will be held on Sunday, January 24, 2021 at the Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington Street, Millsboro, Delaware 19966. Family and Friends may pay their respects between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. A private, by invitation only service will follow. Due to COVID-19, limited seating is available. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contribution to The Nanticoke Indian Association, Inc. "NIA" - "Powwow Fund", 27073 John J. Williams Hwy, Millsboro, DE 19966.
