PHYLLIS ANN HITCHENS's Obituary
Phyllis Ann Steele Hitchens, 67, of Georgetown, finished her journey on April 28th at the Milford Hospice Center after a long and courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Phyllis was born on September 24, 1947 in Georgetown, DE to Helen Foskey Steele and the late T. Elwood Steele, Jr. Phyllis loved her Lord, her family and her church. She was a woman who lived and shared her faith and testimony with everyone through word and song. She and her husband Gerald sang together in numerous churches for over 30years. She was an active member of St. John's United Methodist Church where she held many offices and was in charge of the breakfast crew. Beginning her career with Sussex Trust, she was a 33 year employee before retiring in 2012. Phyllis enjoyed spending time with her family and taking special car of her grandsons. She is survived by her husband of almost 50 years, Gerald L. Hitchens and daughters Sherry Hitchens Swift and husband Norman and Kelly De Leon and her husband Brian, who was like a son to her; four grandsons, Matthew Eskridge and his wife Sabrina Wren Eskridge, Shane Eskridge, Lane De Leon, and Trace De Leon and two step grandsons, Joshua Swift and Jacob Swift. She is further survived by a brother, Thomas Elwood Steele, III, a sister-in-law Sylvia Pepper, a niece Debbie Pepper Mitchell, and nephew Michael Hitchens and wife Teresa as well as many special friends and caregivers. There will be a funeral service at 2:00 PM on Sunday, May 3, 2015 at the Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro, DE 19966, where friends may call after 11:00 AM. Burial will immediately follow at St. John's U.M. Church, Springfield Crossroads, Georgetown, DE.
