OBITUARY OF MR. RICHARD CAMPBELL
Richard Campbell was born September 19, 1944, in Devon, PA to the late Kermit and Dorothy Campbell Sr. On November 28, 2021, after bravely battling colon cancer, he peacefully made his journey to his heavenly home. He was 77 years old.
Richard graduated from William C. Jason High School in 1962. After high school he enlisted in the army reserves and served for six years.
He was known as J.J. by his trucking buddies. Having a passion for driving a truck at the age of 14. He became a professional truck driver. His career in trucking included driving for International, Peninsula Oil Company, Collins & Ryan, George & Lynch, Townsend then retiring with Perdue as an oil tanker driver. He drove over one million miles during his career with Perdue, alone.
Richard loved gardening, talking politics with friends and family, also talking trash with his family.
He enjoyed spending time with his family especially at our family get togethers in August, which would be his last time spending time seeing everyone together. He wasn't going to miss that for anything.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Shirley Campbell; brother Bruce Campbell; brother-in-law Robert Lee Kelley; sister-in-law Brenda Miles; father and mother-in-law David and Anna Mae Kelley.
His legacy will continue through his children Matoya (Ityre) Eley of Millboro, DE, Dene Campbell of Dover, DE, and Orlando (Monica) Kelley of Millsboro, DE. Grandchildren Gordon Jr., Robert, Briyana, Orlando Jr., Aja, Noah, Kianna, and Osiah. Great grandchildren Zoey, Kayson and Kyro.
Siblings: Kermit (Ruth) Campbell, Carole (Gordon) Draine, Deborah (Darryl) Burton, Wendy (Arthur) Selby, John Campbell all of Millsboro, DE, Bobby (Leslie) of New Jersey and Karen (Dion) of Milford, DE.
In-Laws: David Jr. (Joyce) Kelley of Dagsboro, DE, Bobby (Patricia) Kelley of North Carolina, Yvonne (Spencer) Kennedy of Milford, DE and Teresa Mitchell of Millsboro, DE.
His Aunt Mary Campbell of Yeadon, PA, Uncle Jesse Campbell of Willingboro, NJ and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A funeral service will be held at 12 Noon on Saturday, on December 11, 2021, at St. John 2nd Baptist Church, 26602 Mount Joy Rd, Millsboro, DE 19966, where viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Interment to follow at Old Field Cemetery in Millsboro, DE.
