Richard Granville Smith, 83, of Laurel, Delaware, passed away peacefully at home on April 14, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on December 13, 1941, in Millsboro, Delaware, Richard was the son of the late Granville and Mildred (Ross) Smith. He proudly served his country in the National Guard for eight years and later built a career as a commercial door specialist, where he was known for his strong work ethic and reliable craftsmanship.
Richard had a passion for working with his hands. He enjoyed repairing Snapper lawn mowers, welding, and spending time outdoors. Some of his fondest moments were spent on the water fishing and clamming. Above all else, Richard treasured the time spent with his family and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother George Smith and his sister Sue Joseph. Richard is survived by his children, Shannon Smith (Katie) of Fruitland, MD, Mace Smith (Lindsay) of Salisbury, MD, and Kenzie Smith (Mike) of Laurel, DE; grandchildren, Logan Smith, Brooke Smith, Sol Smith, Wynn Smith, and Sky Smith; his loving companion, Ouida Guittare, sister Barbara Lawson and sister-in-law Pat Smith.
Richard’s legacy lives on in the lives of those who knew and loved him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
