Robert Goslee Jones "RG"'s Obituary
Robert Goslee Jones, affectionately known as "RG," passed away on June 7, 2026, at Tidal Health Nanticoke in Seaford, Delaware. He was 67 years old. Born on September 30, 1958, RG was the son of the late Robert and Alice (Massey) Jones. He graduated from Sussex Central High School and began his working career with his stepfather's business, John Williams Trash Company.
Throughout his life, RG built a reputation as a hardworking and talented mechanic whose passion for engines and machinery was evident in everything he did. He shared his knowledge with others while teaching automotive technology at Delaware Technical Community College and Sussex Technical High School. He also spent many years working as a mechanic with Hamilton Engine and Machinery. Whether repairing an engine, diagnosing a problem, or tinkering with machinery, RG approached every task with exceptional skill and pride. He was known for his meticulous workmanship, refusing to leave behind so much as a drop of oil or any sign that a machine had ever been broken.
Away from work, RG was a devoted fan of racing. He loved stock cars, enjoyed following NASCAR, and could often be found sharing stories and conversations about the sport he loved. His greatest qualities, however, were found in his loyalty and compassion. He spent many years caring for his beloved wife, Pamela, during her courageous battle with cancer, demonstrating a level of devotion that reflected the kind and selfless man he was. He cherished his family, treasured his friendships, and touched the lives of many through his generosity, humor, and caring nature.
In addition to his parents, RG was preceded in death by his wife, Pamela Jones, and his brother, Lewis Jones.
He is survived by his sister, Brenda Shirey and her husband, William; his nephews, Brooks and Blake Shirey; his dear friends, Joe Ann Adams, "Whitey" Hopper, and John Eggleston; his employer and brother-in-heart, Robert Hamilton; and his entire Stockley Tavern family, all of whom will miss him dearly.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Watson Funeral Home, where friends may call beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Victory Junction, 4500 Adams Way, Randleman, NC 27317
