Mr. Robert H. Long of Millsboro, DE passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2019. He was 97 years old.
Bob was born May 2, 1922 in Millsboro, DE to the Late John H. and Alice E. Long. He served his country in the U. S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the U.S. Trainer's Association. He was an owner trainer and driver of harness horses. He won his last race at Brandywine Raceway. He then became an over the road driver for the next twenty one years retiring from Perdue Transportation in 1984. Bob was a member of the Elks Lodge #2540 and an honorary member of the Indian River Yacht Club having served as commodore in 1983. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 28. He loved to fish and garden. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his 1st wife Eleanor F. Long, his 2nd wife, Anna B. Long as well as two sons Donald R. and Roy A. Long.
He is survived by one daughter, Ruth A. Patterson and three grandchildren, five great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 12 Noon on Saturday, December 28, 2019 at the Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St. Millsboro, DE 19966, where friends may call from 11 AM to 12 Noon for viewing and visitation. Interment will follow at the Dagsboro Redmens Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Vitas Hospice, 30265 Commerce Dr., Suite 202, Millsboro, DE 19966.
