Obituary of Roger W. Mitchell
Marine Corps Veteran
Roger W. Mitchell, 78, of Millsboro passed away at his home in the care of his family and the Delaware Hospice. He was born in Omar, DE on August 12, 1939 to the late Franklin E. and Madeline Baker Mitchell. Upon graduation from high school, he entered the US Marine Corps serving an enlistment he was very proud of. After serving in the military, he was employed at the E.I. DuPont Chemical Company, retiring after decades of service as Group Five Supervisor. He owned and trained horses, and was a member of the Standardbred Harness Racing Association. He was also a member of the American Legion Post in Milton, DE.
Above all, more than any of these accomplishments, he was devoted to his family, and enjoyed life fully, possessing a wonderful sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife: Judith L. Hickman Mitchell; and two children: Keith Mitchell, and his wife Karen, of Seaford, DE; and Ross Mitchell and his wife Jo Anne, who reside in England. Also surviving, his sister: Marie Phillips, and husband Milton, of Dagsboro, DE and a brother: Franklin Mitchell, and wife Jenny, of Florida. He has five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by another brother: John Mitchell.
A graveside service will be held in the Millsboro Cemetery on Friday, January 12, 2018 at 1:00 PM, with Pastor Robert Hudson officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to either Home of the Brave Veteran's Home; 6632 Sharps Road; Milford, DE 19963 - or to a Charity that is dear to your heart.
