Roland E. West's Obituary
Roland E. West, of Millsboro, DE, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, with his family by his side.
He was born on September 24, 1928, in Millsboro, DE to the late William and Gertrude (Wilkins) West. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Dolores Rickards West as well as a sister Doris Downs.
Mr. West was a lifelong farmer, born, raised, and passed away, on the family farm that meant so much to him. He visited his family home every day up until just recently. He had a deep love for the land, which was reflected in his passion for growing a vegetable garden and hunting with his bird and rabbit dogs.
A graduate of Millsboro High School, Mr. West was a proud member of the class where he played baseball. He was a stockholder of the Laurel Grain Co., a partner of West and West Farms, and at one time, the superintendent of the construction company that built the development Bethany West.
In addition to his dedication to farming, Roland enjoyed fishing , spending time with family and was known for his sweet tooth, always having a treat close by.
He is survived by a daughter Cheryl Roach, and a son Richard West (Dianna) all of Millsboro, DE. He also leaves behind a sister, Anna Mae Buhl; five grandchildren: Christine Anderson (Craig), Jennifer Leonard (Ty), Charlene Brown (Kyle), D.J. Roach and Shelley Roach; as well as seven great grandchildren: Kiersten, Abrielle, Weston, Anberlin, Roxanne, Asher and Lily. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00PM on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro, DE 19966 where friends may visit between 10:00AM – 12:00PM. Interment will follow at Millsboro Cemetery.
