Sewell Thomas Corbin's Obituary
Sewell Thomas Corbin was born on December 31, 1937, in Accomack County, Virginia, to the late Lola Mae West Scarborough and Leroy Baines. He was lovingly raised alongside the legacy of his grandparents, Daisy Walker and George West Sr. Sewell passed away peacefully at the age of 88 on January 26, 2026, at Evergreen Rehabilitation & Nursing Home Center.
Sewell attended Accomack County Public Schools through the eighth grade, leaving school early to help support his family. He later relocated to Selbyville, Delaware, where he met the love of his life, Ruth Virginia Hudson. The two were united in marriage on June 25, 1960, and shared a devoted life together. From this union was born Vanessa Lynn Corbin.
Sewell was a man of faith, fellowship, and service. He was a longtime member of Zoar United Methodist Church, where he participated in the men’s choir. He was also an active member of Prince Hall Masonic Lodge and the Shriners. Music was one of his passions, and he enjoyed performing with his traveling band as a bongo player.
Known for his pride and craftsmanship, Sewell earned numerous trophies at car shows and parades for his cherished 1968 Buick Electra. Professionally, he dedicated many years to the poultry industry, working at H & H Poultry, Townsend Poultry, in Delaware. In 1995, he became an entrepreneur, founding S & R Distributors, which he successfully operated until 2010. He later worked as a tow truck driver for K & J Enterprise from 2011 until 2018, retiring due to health challenges.
Sewell leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife, Ruth V. Corbin; his daughter, Vanessa Lynn Corbin; Sister Martina Bailey and his adopted sister, Sherlene West-Hall. He is also survived Sisters-in-law Anna Bowen and Mildred Hudson along with a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Douglas “Buddy” West; sister-in-law, Bernice West; and mother & stepfather Lola Scarborough and Roland Scarborough. Father Leroy Baines. Brothers In-law Edward Hudson and William Hudson, Sisters In-law Ethel Cooley, Thelma Brittan, & Joyce Hudson.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 13, 2026, at 12 PM at Zoar United Methodist Church, 67 Handy Lane, Selbyville, DE 19975. A viewing will be held from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM prior to the service. Interment will immediately follow at Zoar Golden Acres Cemetery.
Sewell Thomas Corbin will be remembered for his hard work, devotion to family, love of music, and pride in everything he did. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched.
