Shawantay's Journey
Shawantay R. Showell, 46, departed this life on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at Tidal Health Hospital, Seaford, DE. Born at Beebe Hospital in Lewes on June 22, 1979, he was the son of Bruce A. and Lillie M. Showell. He was the biological son of Darlene Handy. Shawantay was a student at Indian River High School.
Shawantay was a truck driver in Jackson, Mississippi, for 19 years. He also shared a business with his father, Showell and Son. He was the best truck driver on the road. His "handle" was Rooster. His passion was racing motorcycles while he was living in Mississippi.
Along with his parents, he will be remembered by his wife, Ashley Showell, an his children: Tayvon Gibbs, Lauran Showell, Laila and Ontario Jones; one sister, Tanya Thomas (Rondel Brittingham); one brother, Jonathan Handy; his paternal grandmother, Virginia Showell; a niece, Nakira Brittingham; a nephew, Rondel Brittingham, Jr.; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his friends, he had three besties: Kim Gibbs, Curtie Chandler and Val Wescott.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00PM on Friday, June 26, 2026, at Watson Funeral Home & Crematorium, 211 S. Washington Street, Millsboro, DE 19966, with a viewing beginning at 2:00PM prior to the service. Interment will be private.
