Sherman Glenn Banks' Obituary
Gumboro-Sherman Glenn Banks, 81, passed away Wednesday, August 14, 2019.
He was born on January 3rd, 1938 to the late Lloyd and Clara Banks, at home in Selbyville, DE. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a grandson Thomas G. Kirshner Jr. and his in-laws James and Jerdie Hitchens.
He retired from the Nylon Capital Dupont plant in Seaford, DE in 1992 where he worked as maintenance planner supervisor. He and his wife owned and operated S & T Package Store in Gumboro for a few years. Sherman served in the Army from 1957 to 1960 where he was stationed in Germany and received a good conduct medal. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge AF&AM #37 in Dagsboro, DE, East Sussex Moose Lodge #2542, Bi State Ruritan Club, Selbyville Elks Lodge #2173, Dagsboro Volunteer Fire Company, and Delaware Mobile Surf Fisherman. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, watching nascar, and watching his great grand boys' sports games. His family was his biggest joy and he was so proud of them all. His favorite words of advice is if you want to do something don't wait just do it; and take care of your health.
Sherman is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Thelma J. Banks, 2 brothers, Albert Banks (Carol) and David Banks (Bonnie), his 2 children Kim Kirshner (Tom) and Glenn Banks (Missy), 3 grandchildren, Ashley West (Justin), Ashley Tyre (Steven) and Adam, 3 great grandchildren, Ryland West, Waylon Tyre and Weston Tyre. He is also survived by many brother and sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 12pm on Saturday, August 17 at Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro, DE 19966, officiated by Pastor Chuck Reynolds, where friends may call from 10am to 12pm for visitation. Burial will be at Careys Cemetery. The family asks for casual dress, just as Sherman would have wanted.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in Sherman's memory to the Gumboro Community Center, 36849 Millsboro Hwy, Millsboro, DE 19966, where he was a long-term member and past Vice President.
