Obituary of Thelma Blaxall
Thelma Blaxall passed away at her home on Tuesday, December 27, 2016. She was 86 year old. Born on January 7, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Clyde Barlow and Eulah Atwell.
Thelma was a person full of compassion. She was very kind, respectful and would help anyone in need. Thelma hated conflict and always sought to be the peacemaker. She was a reliable friend and "go to" person for many. Thelma was simply a generous human being, an advocate of everyone.
She earned a Bachelor's of Science degree and worked in the Healthcare industry as a nurse for many years. Thelma returned to earn her Master's Degree at the age of 44 authored two books and numerous poems.
Thelma devoted her life to serving her community and needs of others. She was founder of the Geriatric and the Children's Beach Houses in Rehoboth, Delaware. She piloted the federal program Meals on Wheels in Wilmington, Delaware. Andshe was instrumental in bringing the program to Sussex County. Thelma sat as a past-chair for the Delaware Mental Health Association. She also held memberships in the Parkinson Association of Sussex County, Christmas Tree Growers Association of Delaware and Future Farmers of America (FFA) to name a few organizations for which she actively supported.
Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, John Blaxall.
While Thelma had no biological children, she is survived by nieces and nephews whom she took under her wings as her own: Robert S. Korwek, Robert J. Korwek, Francis A. Korwek, Riachard J. Korwek, Dennis E. Korwek, Elizabeth A. Korwek-Smith, Sharon L. Korwek; their children and grandchildren; several cousins; a godchild and namesake; and a host of friends.
A funeral service and Celebration of Her Life will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at Coolspring Presbyterian Church, Lewes, Delaware at 12:00 Noon. Friends may call for visitation and viewing one hour prior from 11:00 AM to Noon. Interment follows at Coolspring Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Pastor Mary Jo Dean will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations to the National Coalition against Domestic Violence (NCADV.org) or the American Parkinson Disease Association (apdaparkinson.org) are welcomed.
