Obituary of Thomas Joseph Sheeran
Former Ocean View Councilman
Thomas Joseph Sheeran, 73, of Ocean View, DE and formerly of Sterling, VA passed away on November 22, 2015 at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, DE. He was born on Feb. 16, 1942 in Lorain, OH to the late James and Mary Frances O'Doherty Sheeran. He was a graduate of St. Mary's High School in Lorain and of George Mason University in Fairfax, VA. Tom was a man of simple tastes, dedicated to his country and community. He spent a lifetime of service beginning in the US Army, and followed by a full career in the US Federal Government. He was devoted to his family, especially his children and grandchildren. After retirement from the government, he served in various volunteer efforts. After moving to Delaware he became involved in Ocean View government, and served as a member of the Town Council, also volunteering in many town projects. Tom knew no strangers and was loved by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia D. Sheeran, and three children: James Sheeran, and his wife Patricia, of Manassas, Virginia; Thomas R. Sheeran, and his wife Uyen, of Lorton, VA and John Sheeran, of Suffolk, VA. He is also survived by a sister: Margo Kelley, of Fairview Park, OH; and two grandchildren: Christopher Sheeran and Caitlin Sheeran. Also surviving is a niece, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
Friends may call for viewing and visitation at the Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro, DE 19966, from 5 PM till 8 PM on Tuesday evening, December 1. A vigil service will be conducted at 7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church in Bethany Beach, DE at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 2. Interment follows at the Delaware Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro with the conferring of Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Delaware Hospice; 100 Patriots Way; Milford, DE 19966.
