Obituary of Mrs. Viola Mae Atkins
Viola Mae Atkins, 93, of Millsboro passed away in the care of Harrison House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Georgetown, DE on January 2, 2017. She was born on June 17, 1923 in Millville, DE to the late Carl and Leona Morgan. She married Medford Atkins and together, they raised three children. Medford passed away, preceding her, in 2002. She had a career working and retiring from the Stockley Center. She was a devoted Christian, and a member of the Sussex County Bible Church. She loved church activities most of all, and other interests included knitting and crochet; puzzles and crossword books. She loved camping at Trap Pond State Park. She is survived by three children: Medford Atkins, Jr. and his wife Peggy, of New Castle, DE; Esther Rogers, of Millsboro; and Bruce Atkins and his wife Barbara, of Georgetown. She has two sisters: Helen Nichols, of Salisbury, MD; Kathrine Atkins, of Millsboro; and a brother: David Morgan and his wife Louise, of Millsboro. She also leaves her seven grandchildren: Kimberly Novello (Paul); Brian Atkins (Adria); Troy Atkins (Cindy); Christa Morris (Brian); Keith Rogers (Felicia); Connie West (Ron); and Cassie Atkins. Additional survivors include 17 great-grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Helen Morgan of Frankford; many extended family and friends and her special friend, Dot King, and all the "McDonald's friends." In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded by an infant child, Gerald. A funeral service, and Celebration of Her Life, will be held on Friday, January 6th, at Noon, Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington Street, Millsboro with Pastor Robert Hudson, and Pastor Duane Smith officiating. Friends may call for viewing and visitation one hour prior, from 11:00 AM till 12 Noon. Interment follows in Millsboro Cemetery. Flowers are welcomed, or memorial contributions to Compassionate Care Hospice, 20165 Office Circle, Georgetown, DE 19947.
