Virgil M. Cottman's Obituary
Virgil M. Cottman, age 70, of Lewes, Delaware, passed away at his residence on April 23, 2026. Born on July 28, 1955, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes, he was the beloved son of the late Virgil Cottman and Mildred Harmon Cottman.
Virgil proudly served his country in the United States Army, a reflection of his strength, dedication, and commitment to others. He spent many years working as a supervisor at Townsend, now known as Mountaire Farms, where he was respected for his hard work and leadership.
Virgil was a man known for his generous heart and helping spirit. He was always willing to lend a hand—whether it was changing a flat tire, fixing something that needed repair, or quite literally giving the shirt off his back. His kindness left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
He lived life with joy and laughter. Virgil loved to dance and was known for his smooth moves, often bringing energy and smiles wherever he went. He enjoyed playing spades, shooting pool, and spending time cutting up with family and friends. His fun-loving personality made him unforgettable.
A man of faith, Virgil played an important role in helping to start God’s Way Ministries, where he also volunteered his time and service to support his community.
Above all, Virgil loved his family deeply. He was a devoted brother, father, grandfather, and proud “Pop Pop,” cherishing every moment spent with his grandchildren.
He will be remembered for his warmth, generosity, laughter, and the love he gave so freely. His legacy will live on in the many lives he touched.
Virgil is survived by his loving wife, Ella Cottman; his son, Darnell Hicks; step children: Erica Collick Henry (Jerry), Clifton Collick (Katherine), and Gregory Curtis; grandchildren: Sariah, Dashel, Anyla, Cameron, Amellia, Evyn, Eyan, Owen, and Envy; his sisters Thelma, Helen, Bertheda, and Mildred; his adoring niece, Jackie Hall; his in-laws: Clifford, Otis, and John Tolliver, April and Julia Tolliver, and Virginia Rainey; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family who will miss him dearly.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, May 8, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Watson Funeral Home & Crematorium, 211 Washington Street, Millsboro, DE 19966, where friends may view beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will be private.
