Obituary of Virginia Lee Lathbury
Virginia Lee Lathbury, 84, of Frankford passed away on September 11, 2015 at Beebe Hospital in Lewes, DE after a prolonged illness. She was born in Denton, MD on November 9, 1930 to the late Rev. William T. and Verma Walls Archer. Virginia married her husband, Allen Franklin Lathbury in 1956. Virginia was an animated, lively lady who was strong willed and feisty, a spirited person. She worked as an owner/operator entrepreneur who was skilled at running several retail businesses. Virginia loved music, and played the organ. She also enjoyed fishing, boating and crafts. She was a genuine person who left no one wondering what she thought, because she would tell you. In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by five siblings. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Dr. Allen Franklin "A.J." Lathbury, Jr. and his wife, Kelly J., of Millsboro; and Bruce E. Layton, and his wife Arlene Knox Layton, of Ocean View, DE. Virginia also has four grandchildren: Trent A. Lathbury; Brian M. Layton; Brooks D. Layton; and Amy M. Kernodle. She also has one great-grandchild: Mia M. Kernodle. There were two important canine friends in her life, she is survived by "Buddy" and she has gone to join her beloved "Dutchess" who preceded her.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2015 at 12:00 Noon with Pastor Thomas Bunting officiating. Calling hours and a time of visitation with the family will be held from 10 AM until 12 noon. Interment will be private with the family at the Delaware Memorial Veteran's Cemetery. Flowers are welcomed, or memorial donations may be made to the Frankford United Methodist Church, or to Emmanuel Wesleyan Church.
