William Michael Lucian McCabe's Obituary
William Michael Lucian McCabe July 28, 1987 – June 15, 2025
William Michael Lucian McCabe, age 37, of Laurel, DE, passed away peacefully at home on June 15, 2025, after a courageous seven-year battle with renal failure. Born in Lewes, DE, on July 28, 1987, he faced life’s challenges with strength, resilience, and a signature smile that lit up every room he entered.
William earned his high school diploma from Stratford Career Institute in 2007 and was never afraid of hard work. Over the years, he held many jobs including painter, carpenter, industrial pipe layer, floor technician, and cook at various local restaurants. He was always eager to learn something new and took pride in every task he took on.
A man of many passions, William found joy in cooking, gardening, hunting, golfing, and fishing—his favorite pastime. He was an avid NASCAR and dirt track racing fan and a loyal supporter of the Dallas Cowboys. Above all, he was known for his warm personality, kind heart, and deep love for his family and friends.
He made friends wherever he went and was often heard saying, “Smiles are still free, right?”—a simple phrase that often brought joy and light to others. William never missed a chance to remind his loved ones how much he cared, always asking, “Have I told you I love you today? If not, I love you.”
William is survived by his loving mother, Michele R. McCabe of Georgetown, DE; his father, William J. McCabe of Laurel, DE; and his brother, Dylan W. McCabe of Millsboro, DE. He is also survived by his maternal grandparents, Phillip B. and Rose M. Lowe of Georgetown, DE; his aunt Rebecca T. Wright (Ben) of Delmar, MD; uncle Derek A. Lowe of Georgetown, DE; aunt Malinda Moore of Millsboro, DE; his best friends John McBroom and Adam Littleton; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who will carry his memory with them always.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Lynn W. Taylor; paternal grandparents, Clarence V. and Susan E. McCabe; his uncle, Clarence “Vince” McCabe, II; and a special cousin, Michael A. Dennis, Jr.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at Watson Funeral Home and Crematorium, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro, DE 19966, at 11:00 AM, with a viewing one hour prior, beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Millsboro Cemetery.
