William George Palmer Jr.'s Obituary
William G. “Billy” Palmer, Jr., son of the late William G. and Althea C. Palmer was born in Lewes, DE on July 4, 1935, and departed this life early Saturday morning, March 18, 2023, at the age of 87.
After graduating from William C. Jason High School in 1955, he enlisted in the United States Army and served in the Marine Corps Reserves.
Billy then left Delaware and moved to New Jersey. While residing in New Jersey he gained employment with the New Jersey Transit Company. First serving out of the Ordell Garage as a bus driver. After moving to southern New Jersey, he transferred to the Newton Avenue Garage where he finished his career as a mechanic foreman. He retired in 2003 after 33 years of service.
Billy moved to Palm Coast, Florida after retiring from New Jersey Transit. He resided in Florida until his health began to fail and he returned to his home state of Delaware.
Billy loved cars and was an avid drag racer in his younger days. He always kept a clean car and expected you to do the same. His blue Chevelle Super Sport was the apple of his eye until it was stolen from him. He searched for that car many nights.
Billy was also known to be a neat and particular dresser. Everything had to be matching and creased.
Billy played baseball and football in high school. He even tried his hand at golfing.
He was part of the sought-out team of car detailers in Paterson, New Jersey. Billy was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in New Jersey.
Billy gave his life to the Lord. He became a Deacon within the churches he attended during his residency in New Jersey and continued once he retired to Palm Coast.
He loved family and his friends. He was a very dependable and responsible man. Once he befriended you, you had a friend for life.
Billy is preceded in death by his parents, William G. Sr. and Althea C. Palmer; two sisters, Julia Shirley Palmer and Rebecca Louise Bowden.
