WILLIE LEE MCCLOUD, SR.'s Obituary
Dr. Willie Lee McCloud, Sr. affectionately called "Boo" or "Boo Boo" was born to the late Claude Hubert McCleod and late Rosie Lee Louder on May 24, 1950 in Belle Glade, Florida. He peacefully went home to be with the Lord on March 31, 2016.
Willie graduated from Milford High School and the University of Delaware with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry in 1968 and 1972, respectively. In 1975, he earned his Doctor of Medicine degree through Howard University's Accelerated Honors Program after three years of study. Afterwards, he completed his 5 year Post Doctorate Residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology and became Board Certified in 1982.
In 1980, Willie was delighted to open his private practice, Women's Total Healthcare, with three locations within the State of Maryland. From 1984 through 1986, Willie advanced his professional expertise in obstetrics and gynecology; he earned certificates in Advanced Periscopic and Internal Laser Surgery, Advanced Sonography, Training in Microsurgery, and External Laser Surgery.
Willie was esteemed for his brilliance in handling complicated childbirth deliveries and gynecological and obstetric medical procedures. He was awarded the Doctor of the Year Award from the Chairman of Department of OB/GYN for Prince Georges Hospital Center; a Certificate of Appreciation from the Department of Physician Assistants from Howard University; and special recognition for his medical service as a member of Prince Georges' Society of Health Professional and the Community.
During Willie's career as an OB/GYN, he diligently served various medical affiliations and others aspiring to enter the field. He was a dedicated member of the Medchi Association, the National Medical Association, the American Medical Association and the Prince Georges Society of Healthcare Professionals. He proudly educated and trained many medical students, residents, physician assistants, as well as graciously served as mentor to many future medical professionals. He was known by his mentees, colleagues, residents, nurses and patients as an intelligent, compassionate and caring physician.
Before his health began to decline, Willie passionately enjoyed life and took pleasure in leisure activities. He enjoyed golfing, boating, cooking, traveling and spending quality time with his wife, children and grandchildren.
Willie was a member of Holy Trinity Church of the Living God (formerly Holy Tabernacle Church of Love) where his mother, the late Rosie Lee Johnson, served as his Pastor and spiritual mentor. He continued his membership with the ministry until his passing under the leadership of his loving sister, Pastor Martha T. Smith. Willie gave his life to Christ and was baptized under Pastor Smith's pastorate. Willie also enjoyed attending church with his wife, Bonnie, at Refreshing Spring Church of God in Christ in Riverdale, Maryland. Often Willie would tap his wife on the knee to find out what was being said, then he would begin to clap his hands and join in the service.
Willie was preceded in death by his mother Rosie Lee Johnson, his fathers Claude Hubert McLeod and Lonnie Johnson Sr., his brothers Robert Jones, Claude McCleod Jr., Willie Walker and his sister Barbara McCleod.
Willie leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife of 43 years Bonnie, mother in-law Georgia Boone, of Lincoln, DE, 5 sons Willie McCloud, Jr. (Dawn) of Dover, DE, William McCloud (Deatrice) of Fuquay Varina, NC, Warren McCloud of Bowie, MD, Walden McCloud also of Bowie, MD and Winston McCloud (Kishana) of Flushing, NY. 5 grandchildren, Sanaa, Nia and Willie McCloud, III all of Dover, DE, Mosi McCloud of Flushing, NY and Erykah Snuggs of Fuquay Varina, NC. 14 siblings Sylvester Johnson (Charletta) of Bear, DE, Alvin Johnson (Marsha) of Landenberg, PA, Donald Johnson of Dover, DE, Lonnie Jr. (Valerie) of Jacksonville, FL., Hubert McCleod, Tyrone McCleod, Mack Walker and Vincent Weaver, all of West Palm Beach, FL, a loving sister and Pastor, Martha Smith (John) of Dover, DE, Penny Smith (Jimmy) of Mt. Royal, NJ, Rosie Woolford of Dover, DE, Cornelia Johnson-Davis (LaPointe) of Middletown, DE, Lonzenia Fenton of Sterling, VA and Jackie McCleod of West Palm Beach, FL,. Willie also leaves to cherish his memories 3 childhood friends Joseph Cooper of DE, Oliver Parker of MD and Carlos Williams of VA, Bernice and James Slaughter and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and colleagues.
