My first memories of Uncle Jim were in the mid 60's. I was in awe of his red Mustang, maybe a '66? He often brought coolers full of fresh-caught flounder to his mom and dad's house that mom-mom would clean and cook for dinner. I'll never forget him taking me on my first squirrel hunt, checking his fishing nets in the Indian River, and of course I was always proud to say "My uncle is a Delaware State Trooper!". I'll miss his dry sense of humor and efforts to get our family together for dinners. I know Uncle Jim (Bro "J") and my dad (Bro "T") are reunited and keeping an eye on us from above. Take care Uncle Jimmy, we miss you.
Gale and Wendy, I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Wilson. Jim was a great man and a better friend. I first met Wilson when we served in the Delaware National Guard, at D Battery in Georgetown. For some unknown reason we became close friends. Later we joined the State Police at the same time on November 1st, 1969. We were in the same Academy Class, and our friendship continued to grow. I was assigned to the TAC Team, a traffic enforcement and radar team in Sussex County. I later found out that Jim had requested my transfer. I was a Corporal at that time and Jim was the Sergeant in charge of the team. These were the best three years of my career. The closeness our team members had was exceptional. The team consisted of Jim, myself, Herb Murray, Bill Dudley, Joe Forester and Horace Pepper. We worked hard and at times partied hard. Gail, do remember when the whole team with our wives got together at my house in Milford to have dinner and watch the long awaited episode of Dallas, "Who Shot J.R?". Quite a memory. I later served two years as a lieutenant with Jim when he was Troop Commander at Troop Five in Bridgeville. Jim was always a great role model and mentor. I regret that Wilson and I lost touch when he retired in 1989. We saw each other on a rare occasion. I have always considered Wilson a great and close friend. I am sure you are going to miss him greatly. Bev and I are living in Florida, so we can't attend the services. We will have You and Wendy in our thoughts and prayers. "God Bless"Louie and Bev O'Day
My husband was stationed at Troop 4 with Jim. We have such fond memories of times spent with Jim and Gail. The card games were such fun and we still have a jar with some Murray pennies. Can still see the crab that didnt want to get steamed grabbing for bare skin and Jim did not have a shirt on! While we havent seen him in years, he will be fondly remembered. Our deepest sympathy to Gail, Wendy and family. Our prayers are with you for peace and comfort.
