Alan Dion Smith's Obituary
Alan Dion Smith, 58, of Dagsboro, Delaware, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on April 30, 2026.
Born on November 17, 1967, in Washington, D.C., Alan was the son of William Smith and Pricilla Anne Cook. After graduating from high school, he proudly served his country in the United States Army as a Military Police officer and was a veteran of Desert Storm.
Alan was known for his larger-than-life personality, quick wit, and remarkable ability to make others laugh. A natural jokester, he brought joy and smiles to everyone he encountered and never missed an opportunity to lift the spirits of family and friends.
He had a passion for collecting Star Wars memorabilia and enjoyed searching for unique treasures to add to his collection. Above all, Alan deeply cherished the time he spent with his loved ones, creating meaningful memories that will be treasured forever.
He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Andrew Smith.
Alan leaves behind his loving wife, Dawn Smith; his children, Alex Smith and Serina Brooks, and Step-Son Derrek Leigh; his mother, Pricilla Cook; his siblings, Pernell Ellerbe, Andrea Smith, Andre Ellerbe, and Gordon Turner; and his cherished grandchildren, Elijah Hall, Mia Hall, Joey Brooks, and Carson Leigh.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Watson Funeral Home and Crematorium. A visitation for family and friends will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. prior to the service. A chapel committal with military honors will immediately follow at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
