Obituary of Calvin Lee Epperly
Calvin Lee Epperly, 85, of Dagsboro, DE and formerly of Newark, DE passed away at home in the loving care of his family and the Delaware Hospice on October 5, 2020. He was born on Oct 4, 1935 to the late Walter B. and Helen L. Helm Epperly in Salem Virginia. He proudly served in the US Army, married his sweetheart, Delores Jean Chappell in 1961 in Street, MD. Together they raised two children, and had six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He retired as a Supervisor for Chrysler Corporation. He was a member of First Baptist Church, serving on the Board of Trustees for several years. He was also a member of B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge. He loved music and played both guitar and digital piano. He loved the outdoors, golfing, and tending to lawns. He was devoted to family, and was strong willed, but loving. He was known as a "Mr. Fix-it" and could fix just about anything. He never hesitated to help anyone, and was a very giving person who never expected anything in return.
He is survived by his wife, Delores and his children: Sonia Epperly, of Millsboro, DE; and Walt Epperly and his wife, Nancy, of Lavale, MD. He is also survived by a brother, Lennie Epperly, of Salem, VA and five grandchildren: Lora Conte; Bryan Peterson; Madison Epperly; Macy Epperly; and Stephanie Epperly; along with seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded by four brothers: Junior; Clyde; Ed; and Wiley Epperly; and one grand-daughter: Melanie Epperly, who passed in 2012.
A funeral service and celebration of his life will be held at the First Baptist Church, 20304 N. DuPont Blvd, Georgetown, DE on Monday, October 12, 2020 with Pastor Woody Bates officiating. Friends may call for viewing and visitation with the family from 10:00 AM until 12:00 Noon. The service will begin at 12:00 Noon. Interment follows at the Delaware Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro at 2:00 PM with the conferring of Military Honors. In compliance with the coronavirus restrictions in effect, masks and social distancing will be required.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or The First Baptist Church, 20304, N. DuPont Blvd, Georgetown, DE 19947.
