Leon Collins' Obituary
Leon Collins, 80, of Georgetown, Delaware, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2025. Born on October 18, 1945, in Lewes, DE, he was the son of the late Ollie F. Collins and Mildred (Wooten) Collins.
Mr. Collins proudly served eight years in the Army Reserves. After graduating from Millsboro High School in 1965, he began his career at DuPont in Seaford. He later worked for Millsboro Trust and Sussex Trust as a teller and loan officer before joining the Sussex County Government, where he managed the Utility Billing Department and retired after 26 dedicated years of service.
Mr. Collins enjoyed traveling, especially to Myrtle Beach, and loved spending weekends at flea markets in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. A member of the American Music Theatre in Lancaster for over 30 years, he cherished live music and the memories made on those trips. An avid outdoorsman, Mr. Collins enjoyed deer hunting and took great pride in maintaining a beautiful yard—one that his neighbors often admired and envied.
Mr. Collins was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Murray; and his brothers: Alvin Collins and Vernon Collins. Surviving him is his devoted wife of 60 years, Janis (Murray) Collins. The two met in the ninth grade and were inseparable ever since. He is also survived by numerous friends whom he considered family.
The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to Vitas Hospice for their compassionate care, and to dear friends Bonnie Millman and Terry Millman for their love and support during this difficult time.
Leon’s warmth, humor, and kindness touched everyone who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Services for Mr. Collins will be private.
